2022 MDH MN Rural Health Awards

The Minnesota Rural Health Awards are given annually to individuals and groups who have made a significant contribution to improving rural health in Minnesota. 

  • The awards will be announced on National Rural Health Day, November 17, 2022. 
  • The awardees will also be honored in person at the 2023 MN Rural Health Conference. The conference is hosted by the National Rural Health Resource Center, the Minnesota Department of Health, and the Minnesota Rural Health Association.  

Contributions to rural health:

Nominees may have contributed to rural health in any capacity: in a volunteer or paid position, as a health care provider or non-provider, and/or through policy or practice. 

Areas of impact could include but are not limited to: health care and health programs, rural health policy, legislation, rural health equity, improved patterns of health care delivery, cooperative efforts to avoid duplication of services and achieve common goals, education, and the lasting impact of a program on populations and areas served.

Nominations are now being accepted and are due Wednesday, August 31, for the following awards: 

  • Hero Award – an individual 
  • Team Award – a team or group of people 
  • Lifetime Achievement Award – an individual at the “end” of their careers

Deadline for nominations: Wednesday, August 31

Please complete the Hero, Team and Lifetime nomination form and return it to health.orhpc@state.mn.us by the end of the day, Wednesday, August 31. You may include two additional 8 ½ x 11 pages (such as letters of support and/or news articles).

2022 MRHA Emerging Rural Health Leader Award

The Minnesota Emerging Rural Health Leader Awards is given annually to an individual who has emerged as “leading the charge” to improve rural health on a local, regional, or statewide level. 

  • The award will be announced on National Rural Health Day, November 17, 2022. 
  • Additionally, the Emerging Leader Award – along with the MN Rural Health Hero, Team, and Lifetime Achievement Awards – will be honored at the 2023 Minnesota Rural Health Conference. The conference is hosted by the National Rural Health Resource Center, the Minnesota Department of Health, and the Minnesota Rural Health Association.

Nomination criteria

  • The emphasis of the award is on recognizing a student or a health professional early in their career who has emerged as a leader in improving rural health on a local, regional, or statewide basis. This person is “leading the charge.”
  • The nominee must be: 
    • A student working towards a career in rural health who has already shown a personal commitment to and a desire for improving rural health here in Minnesota
    • An employee, still early in their career, of a Minnesota organization that serves the health needs of rural Minnesotans.
