In an effort to address burnout among its frontline clinical team members, the Lakewood Health System’s Physician and Employee Wellness Committee launched a series of activities to tackle burnout. All individuals at Lakewood Health System were trained in change management and leaders received training to enable them to be supporters of change. Hear about the activities implemented and review the effectiveness of those steps among staff. There will be an opportunity for discussion.
John Halfen, MD, is a family medicine physician and Chief Medical Officer for Lakewood Health System. He has a special interest in geriatric healthcare and in development of preventive care initiatives for all ages. A native of St. Paul, Dr. Halfen trained at the University of Minnesota and completed his residency at North Memorial Health. He and his wife Kris have six children and six grandchildren, and they enjoy traveling, sports, music, and scuba diving.
Heather Britt, MPH, Ph.D., is the Senior Director of Healthcare Burnout Research at the Minnesota Hospital Association. Dr. Britt facilitates the association’s work around healthcare burnout in physicians, advanced practice professionals, and other healthcare staff. Prior to joining the MHA, Dr. Britt established the Division of Applied Research at Allina Health. Dr. Britt holds a bachelor’s from Cornell University, MPH from the University of North Carolina, and a doctorate in epidemiology from the University of Minnesota.
