Pharmacists are uniquely positioned to engage in suicide prevention efforts. This session will describe how pharmacists and pharmacy technicians at Red Lake Indian Health Services Hospital in Red Lake were trained last year to use the Patient Health Questionnaires (PHQ) 2 and 9 that screen for depression with patients in their ambulatory care clinics. Pharmacists who provided clinical services to patients at a high risk for suicide were given additional training to help patients seek and access professional behavioral health services. Come learn about administering the PHQ-2 and -9 tools and the outcomes Red Lake pharmacy has experienced.

Lieutenant Commander (LCDR) Teresa Grund R.Ph., NCPS, BCPS, is a clinical pharmacist at the Red Lake Indian Health Service (IHS) Hospital in Red Lake, Minnesota. LCDR Grund is a fully credentialed and privileged pharmacist in primary care, medication-assisted treatment, palliative care, and most recently behavioral health. LCDR Grund’s recent areas of focus include palliative care, pain management, and complex trauma care. She is a 2017 ASHP Advanced Pain and Palliative Care Trainee and certified in Aboriginal Focus-Oriented Therapy and Complex Trauma Therapy.
